This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Flying Crew Chief (FCC), having technical authority andaccountability for the total airworthiness of assigned aircraft; launch, recovery, inspection, servicing, generation, andmaintenance of aircraft in austere locations and locations where proper Mission Design Series (MDS) maintenancemay not be available. DUTIES: Duty 1 - Serves as Flying Crew Chief (FCC) of assigned aircraft, required to accomplish maintenance (i.e., servicing, maintenance, troubleshooting, engine run, or inspection on the aircraft) at locations other than home station so that the aircraft is prepared for its next departure. Duty 2 - Performs aircraft inspections including preflight, in-flight, postflight, phase, acceptance and other scheduled and unscheduled inspections. Duty 3 - Positions, maintains, disassembles, repairs, and reassembles major aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components. Duty 4 - Diagnoses and identifies probable locations of malfunctions from the cockpit during engine run-up. Duty 5 - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC with little to no supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the theory, operation, and integration of all mechanical, pneudraulic, electrical, electronic, and other operating systems of a variety of aircraft. Knowledge of the startup, operation, shutdown, and emergency procedures for the systems and the aircraft; symptoms of normal and abnormal operation; and the inter-relationships between operating systems. Knowledge of associated trades such as sheetmetal, painting, aircraft electrical, electronics, and aircraft engine work. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of supply procedures, the publication order system, tool, equipment and material accounting and security and documentation procedures. Skill to check all functional and support systems, operate engine(s), determine what systems are malfunctioning; and search repair directives, technical orders, blueprints and manuals to determine repairs needed. Skill in the use of all tools of the trade, test equipment, teststands, power sources, cockpit instruments, gauges, and controls. Skill in the operation of diagnostic and on-board electronic equipment/systems to identify proper and improper operation of aircraft systems, components, and parts. Ability to analyze guidelines, maintenance modification orders, to determine material, equipment and personnel needs and to perform technical reviews of guides to locate discrepancies or propose improvements to methods or specifications. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. Must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not exceed 30% of total responsibilities. Work schedules will be so aligned to allow the individual to function fully on unit training assembly (UTA) weekends. FCC personnel perform regular aerial flight and in-flight duties on a regular/recurring basis and is a prerequisite of position requirements. The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required. Performs other related duties as assigned. Performs uncommon tours of duty. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids, oil, hydraulic fluid, solvents, and hazardous fluids and gases such as Hydrazine and Halon. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
