The Oklahoma City VA Healthcare System, Pharmacy service, is recruiting for one (1) Pharmacy Technician - Oncology/Sterile IV Program Coordinator.

VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws The Oncology/Sterile IV Program Coordinator is certified, highly specialized technician, who will serve as a coordinator between the Compound Sterile Product (CSP) Program Manager, Supervisor, and Oncology Pharmacist. Most duties will be performed in the Pharmacy Oncology and Sterile compounding suite. To carry out the assignment of this position, the technician must possess extensive knowledge and understanding in sterile product preparation, antineoplastic/cytotoxic agents, non-hazardous IV fluids, total parenteral nutrition, compatibility, and regulatory requirements. The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Program Coordinator Tasks Assists CSP program manager with maintaining all required records related to sterile compounding and regulatory requirements. Updating and maintaining reference and resource materials available in pharmacy service oncology and or CSP area. Appropriately maintain all quality assurance logs in accordance with regulatory requirements. Assist CSP program manager with developing and implementing procedural guidelines and administrative duties of job (such as developing standard operating procedures and substitution guidelines for items that are temporarily out of stock). Plays an active role in maintain accreditations and prepares for national reviews and inspections. Communicates all treatments and/or anticipated treatments to the Oncology pharmacists as to ensure the continuation of care. Maintaining, operating, troubleshooting, and training staff on all technology. Assigned as a superuser for BD IV Prep and Simplifi 797/Critical Point or other programs specific to the CSP suite. Oncology/Sterile Compounding Performs essential role in preparation, compounding, dispensing, and distribution of sterile and nonsterile hazardous medication within designated sterile compounding areas. Receives, reviews, and prepares physician order for cytotoxic agents and pre-medication. Performs accurate product identification labeling dosage calculation, and compounding of agents by utilizing package literature, written procedural guidelines and application of specialized knowledge. After prescription/order(s) are reviewed by a pharmacist for therapeutic propriety, reviews orders for technical accuracy and converts the order, if necessary, so that the item dispensed corresponds to the drug and dose ordered. Performs calculation double check for all IV Admixtures prepared by lower grade technicians. Manages Chemo/IV room medication inventory, compounding supplies and cleaning product to ensure availability and minimize waste. Notifies procurement technician in a timely manner of medications and supplies needed. Monitors both hazardous and non-hazardous medication usage reports communicating with management and procurement for cost savings opportunities. Other Duties Determines proper amount and counts, pours, or measures the medications; affixes proper label; and records required data on Pharmacy's copy of prescription/order. After a final check by a pharmacist, dispenses medication in ambulatory care or discharge situations. For unit-dose medications, performs final review of medication when prepared by another technician, to be dispensed to inpatient areas (med-carts, ward stock), and/or fills unit-dose carts independently without secondary review when necessary. Prepares inpatient drug orders including all medicinal dosage forms such as chemotherapy, intravenous admixtures, oral solids, etc., according to established procedures and protocols. Compounds and/or reconstitutes oral or external medications (non-sterile). This includes calculating and converting to proper weights and measures the amount of drug or solution to be used. Monitors inventory needs in patient care areas, relays this information to the appropriate pharmacy personnel. This also includes placing stock in proper storage areas, rotating stock on shelves, and removing/replacing outdated items. VA Green Environment Management System (GEMS) Understands and complies with federal, state, and local environmental laws and other requirements, preventing pollution, minimizing waste, conserving cultural and natural resources, and continually improving environmental programs. Complete environmental aspects and impact analysis for their activities in collaboration with GEMS Coordinator and effectively implement all applicable operational strategies, which are developed through the GEMS to ensure regulatory compliance. Work Schedule: Various tours (6:00am - 2:30pm, 7:00am - 3:30pm, 8:00am - 4:30pm, and others based on the needs of the service) This includes rotations on weekends and holidays. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. BASIC REQUIREMENTS. Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. Education or Experience. (1) None required. (2) For all grade levels and positions that accept both education and experience to qualify, equivalent combinations of qualifying education and experience that total at least 100% are qualifying. The combined percentage is determined by adding total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level to the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Certification. For positions above the full performance level, the employee must pass a national certification exam and hold an active national certification through either: (1) Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). OR (2) National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Certified Pharmacy Technician (ExCPT). Grandfathering Provision. Pharmacy technicians employed in VHA on the effective date of this qualification standard are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the title, series and grade held, including positive education and licensure/certification/registration that are part of the basic requirements of the occupation. For employees who do not meet all the basic requirements in this standard but who met the qualifications applicable to the position at the time they were appointed to it, the following provisions apply: Employees may be reassigned, promoted up to and including the full performance (journey) level or changed to lower grade within the occupation but may not be promoted beyond the journeyman level or placed in supervisory or managerial positions. Employees in an occupation that requires a licensure/certification/registration only at higher grade levels must meet the licensure/ certification/registration requirement before they can be promoted to those higher grade levels. Employees who are appointed on a temporary basis prior to the effective date of the qualification standard may not have their temporary appointment extended or be reappointed on a temporary or permanent basis until they fully meet the basic requirements of the standard. Employees who are converted to title 38 hybrid status under this provision and subsequently leave the occupation lose protected status and must meet the full VA qualification standard requirements in effect at the time of re-entry to the occupation. Employees initially grandfathered into this occupation who subsequently obtain additional education and/or licensure/certification/registration that meet all the basic requirements of this qualification standard must maintain the required credentials as a condition of employment in the occupation. English Language Proficiency. Pharmacy Technician candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English. GRADE DETERMINATIONS. In addition to the basic requirements for appointment, VA HR staff must use the following criteria to determine the appropriate grade assignment of candidates. Pharmacy Technician, GS-9 Experience. One year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the lower grade level. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs). In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs and meet any additional KSAs for the assignment, if indicated: Expert knowledge serving as a key resource advising others in their particular specialty area or section of the pharmacy (such as procurement, sterile compounding (USP compounding standards), controlled substances DEA, automation, clinical pharmacy, lead tech, contact center, etc.). Skill in analyzing data for self-driven (independent) performance improvement projects, workload analysis and statistical reports. Skill in solving problems and implementing corrective actions to maximize outcomes in their program area. Ability to maintain special accreditations and prepare for national reviews/inspections (e.g., The Joint Commission, Inspector General, American Society of Health System Pharmacists®, controlled substance inspections). Ability to develop training programs and material for orientation, competency development and educational needs for regulatory requirements within the specialized pharmacy program area. Preferred Experience: Present skills and competencies related to USP 797 and 800. Recent activities regarding compounding sterile products preferred. References: VA HANDBOOK 5005/159 PART II APPENDIX G28 This vacancy is for a GS-9 position, which is above the full performance level. Physical Requirements: The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion, involving standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time, typing, walking distances within the medical center, lifting/ carrying (up to 40 pounds) of pharmaceutical supplies, and bending/stooping/stretching. Safety Maintains safe and orderly work areas. Reports any incident of self/patient. Fills out appropriate form. Uses equipment and supplies appropriately. Environment of Care: Follows Life Safety management (fire protection) Procedures. Reports safety hazards, accidents, and injuries. Reviews hazardous material/ Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)/ waste management. Follows Emergency Preparedness plan. Follows security policies/ procedures. Complies with federal, state, and local environmental and other requirements preventing pollution, minimizing waste, and conserving cultural and natural resources. The work environment receiving involves everyday risks of discomforts which require normal safety precautions. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Infection Control: Demonstrates infection control practices for disease preventions (i.e. hand washing, universal precautions/ isolation procedures, including TB requirement/ precautions.
