This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Hawaii is a beautiful state. Hawaii has many outdoor activities all year round including surfing, fishing, and hiking.
Duties
The primary function is to emphasize the identification, evaluation, and treatment of historic structures, buildings and land.
Performs field and office duties to ensure built-environment resources are given full consideration throughout planning, design, construction, and operation assignments.
Ensure that historic-period sites and built environment resources are given full consideration in assigned projects.
Serves as a staff expert in addressing concerns about historic-period structures buildings, and sites related to maintenance, repair, renovation, construction, and demolition.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid Driver’s License at time of appointment.
- Incumbent is expected to travel approximately 10% of the time to attend workshops, meetings, hearings or to perform field work.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or expereince requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement - for GS-11 & GS-12
A bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
A combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.
AND
Qualifications: In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualifications listed below:
GS-11
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Assisting in the management of a historical program; 2) Researching historical records to respond to management requests; 3) Preparing briefings and/or reports to present findings; and 4) Conducting interviews to obtain data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as History. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Have the specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and I have at least two years of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required three years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Have the experience as described above AND the education described in B. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
