Employee serves as a Water Treatment Operator of the Pipe-Fitting/Plumbing Shop, Engineering Service at the VA Healthcare System, Bay Pines. Bay Pines VA Health Care Center is a large, complex medical center providing care to more than 90 thousand veterans in seven counties of Florida; The main campus at Bay Pines consists of multiple buildings spread across hundreds of acres and relies on complex utility systems to maintain operations.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Applies non-filtration processes normally associated with pretreated or ground (well) water treatment processes to change the taste, odor or chemical content of the water.
Maintains acceptable water quality standards and record the treatments according to established methods and regulations.
Conduct utility locates; locate mainlines and service with electronic detectors; marks location of underground water lines; read and update water distribution maps and as-built plans and blueprints.

Performs water treatment tests to check items such as pH level, turbidity and fluoride and chloride content.
Takes measurements utilizing instruments such as ethylometers and pH meters.
Samples collection of water treatment tests for microorganisms.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, compressed or non-compressed, day shift

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Physical Requirements: Water treatment operators do considerable walking, standing on concrete floors, and climbing stairways and ladders. Light to moderate physical effort is necessary to turn valves and controls. They frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 18 kilograms ( 40 pounds) unassisted, and occasionally lift and carry heavier items with assistance of other workers or with lifting devices.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside and may require working in bad weather, or in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. Work is usually dirty, dusty and greasy. Employee is frequently exposed to the possibility of burns, uncomfortable heat condition, cuts, scrapes, strains, bruises and broken bones.
