The Pathways Internship Program allows students to join VA in career positions that emphasize long-term training and development.

Duties

This announcement will close on 02/13/2024, the first 50 applications received will receive first consideration. Applications that are submitted after 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on the date in which the initial cut-off number has been reached will not receive consideration unless otherwise requested by management. All positions will be part-time, no more/less than 6 hours per day OR 30 hours per week. No variations allowed. This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Codes, analyzes, and summarizes qualitative data of employee feedback Offers subject-matter-expert process consultation using knowledge of social-behavioral science methods, organizational assessment techniques, qualitative data and reporting methods Consults on developing conceptual frameworks that reflect valid scientific models of organizational and personnel behavior as reflected in employee feedback data Applies analytic techniques to interpret and evaluate findings from data generated by organizational programs and systems Uses knowledge of scientific research methods valid in organizational (as opposed to laboratory) contexts and uses knowledge of social-behavioral psychology to assist in developing and implementing assessment focused on identifying organizational needs and gaps. Works effectively on time sensitive tasks while remaining thorough and conscientious about specific details. Applicant may be selected at the GS-7 or GS-9 level. Due to the position being for 3 months, there is no promotion potential. Work Schedule: The initial required 3-week, virtual training as per a set schedule. Post-training, varying schedules available, all consisting of 6 hours per day with in 6am to 6pm time window - 30 hours a week.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/13/2024. Internship Program: To be eligible, applicants must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis as defined by the institution in which you are enrolled. PROOF OF ENROLLMENT IS REQUIRED You may qualify based on education and/or experience as described below: GS-07 Qualifications: You must have completed 1 full academic year of graduate level education; Must be in the related field, Psychology. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED OR Eligible under the Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) provision and have completed a bachelors' degree. Degree must be specific to the internship field, Psychology. The provisions under S.A.A. are described as the following: 1. Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. 2. Grade-point average (G.P.A.)-- Applicants must have a grade-point average of: 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. 3. Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society -- Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies. Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision. Select the response that best describes your education. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED OR Specialized experience: One (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level, GS-5, or equivalent. Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to: Knowledge of processes involved in the coding of qualitative data while following a protocol or a manual; and assisting others in performing tasks that require applying statistical, analytical and psychologically based evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies involving data such as psychosocial and particularly organizational data. GS-09 Qualifications: You must have completed 2 full academic years of graduate level education, a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree. Must be in the related field, Psychology, TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED OR Specialized experience: One (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level, GS-7. Typical specialized experience would include but is not limited to: Coding qualitative data which following a protocol or a manual; performing tasks that requires applying statistical, analytical, (qualitative and quantitative), and psychologically based evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies involving data such as psychosocial and particularly organizational data; and experience applying data-processing skills to survey data to qualitative (words not numbers) responses to surveys, etc. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Technology Applications: Uses machines, tools, instruments, or equipment effectively; uses computers and computer applications to analyze and communicate information in the appropriate format. Research: Knowledge of the scientific principles, methods, and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design, collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results. Data Management: Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and tools of data management, such as modeling techniques, data backup, data recovery, data dictionaries, data warehousing, data mining, data disposal, and data standardization processes. Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform portions of the work.
