The primary purpose of this position, ELECTRONIC DIGITAL COMPUTER MECHANIC, WG-2608-12, is to inspect, troubleshoot, calibrate, maintain, and modify industrial and nonindustrial digital computers and the equipment that they control along with other sophisticated state-of-the-art automatic data processing equipment.
Duties
Perform preventative maintenance (PM), troubleshooting, and repair on a variety of industrial and non-industrial digital computer systems and their related equipment according to set schedules or on a trouble call requirement.
Provide preventative maintenance to serviced systems.
Provide training, technical guidance, or work with lower graded employees in helping them to accomplish their assigned tasks.
Make sure all associated electronic or computerized documentation is submitted correctly and in a timely manner after repairs or upgrades are completed.
Use fabrication of modification of various types of IC devices, diodes, transistors, printed circuit cards and other related state-of-the-art electronic/electrical components.

- The employee may be required to work overtime on an emergency basis.
- This position requires the employee to have the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
- Assignments are performed both inside and outside, exposing the employee to inclement weather conditions.
- Will become certified in all tasks and operations required under the Production Acceptance Certification (PAC) Program by attending and successfully completing on-the-job (OJT) and/or formal classroom training.
- Positions may also require a security clearance which the incumbent is required to obtain and maintain.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifts or carries items weighing 25 pounds or less without assistance. For items weighing more than 25 pounds, utilizes mechanical or human assistance. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee typically works in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes in high and restricted places, under conditions of heat and cold, potentially outside in inclement weather. Exposed to the possibility of electric shock; burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder; and cuts and bruises.
