There are 2 vacancies located in the Facilities Management Service at VA Portland Healthcare System - Portland VA Medical Center in Portland, OR.
Duties
DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
Transporting patients daily on the main shuttle bus from the Portland Campus to the Vancouver Campus for various medical appointments
Transporting records and supplies for the Medical Center
Operating such vehicles as paratransit wheelchair vans, sedans, station wagons, heavy and medium duty trucks, tractor with trailer, and buses
Operating the trucks that are up to 75,000 pounds in gross weight and 25 to 60 feet in overall length
Operating the buses that are rated at 28 adults with 2 mobility aid (wheelchair/power scooter) securement positions
Operating vehicles that may have attachments such as hydraulic lifts and folding ramps
Understanding and obeying local, state, federal and agency regulations regarding vehicle operation
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 06:00 a.m. to 02:30 p.m.

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The incumbent is required to lift heavy objects while loading and unloading cargo. The operator assists patients in and out of vehicles, securing mobility aids in preparation for transit. The
position requires prolonged periods of driving, sometimes in times of traffic congestion, and the operator must be constantly alert and aware of his/her surroundings.
Working conditions for this position are hazardous. The operator must drive on steep terrain during periods of inclement weather. Some of the vehicles operated vibrate and jerk. The
operator is subjected to the stress of driving for long periods of time in heavy traffic conditions. The position requires them to be exposed to exhaust fumes and loud noises up to seven hours per day. The operator will also work inside out outside in the elements for periods of time, i.e. rain, snow and ice and extreme heat.
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. While a specific length of training and experience is not required, your responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume.

DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT: You must possess a current valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with the following endorsements (Passenger and Air Brakes) from a State. (We cannot accept photographs, so please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. You may be required to show your valid driver's license at the time of your interview.)
