This announcement is an "Open Continuous" vacancy announcement to allow for current, permanent employees of the Amarillo VA Health Care System to indicate interest in current (and future) Podiatrist vacancies. Candidates will be reviewed and referred to the Selection Official as vacancies occur.

Duties

The Podiatry physician is assigned to Surgical Services, Podiatry Section, of the Amarillo VA Health Care System and provides comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of Podiatry. The scope of these activities covers hospitalized patients and all phases of ambulatory care. Other responsibilities may include education of medical students and residents and/ or supervision of other providers. Applications will be checked weekly or at the request of management. Work Schedule: May vary, but typically covers normal operating hours (Monday - Friday, 8:00a.m. - 4:30p.m.), not to exceed 40 hours per week. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of podiatric medicine, or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in podiatric medicine and surgery. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Licensure or Registration. Applicants must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training. Podiatrists must have completed residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are:(1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. Preferred Experience: Board Certified/Board Eligible in Podiatry good computer skills and understanding of electronic record keeping; References: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-4 Podiatrist Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Standing (up to two hours), walking (up to two hours), moderate lifting (15-44lbs), reaching above the shoulder, repeated bending, emotional and mental stability.

Education

Applicants must possess a doctor of podiatric medicine degree, or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in podiatric medicine and surgery. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • (1) Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine and surgery, approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education of the American Podiatry Medical Association in the year in which the degree was granted.
