THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK), Position Description Number D0259000 and is part of the CO JFHQ G6, National Guard. The purpose of this position is to serve as a project leader for major network projects relating to the Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) systems.

Duties

Responsible for ensuring the correct configuration of network devices. Develops methods and procedures and coordinates corrective action to optimize network performance. Develops the standard configuration software loads for all network devices. Uses remote management software tools to maintain and update configuration, protocol and user/system files. Develops and maintains documentation regarding network configuration, operating procedures, necessary to maintain the reliability of the network. Coordinates appropriate action to ensure backup processes are completed. Determines the use of network devices such as servers, workstations, and peripheral devices, and remote access systems. Responsible for implementation of configuration management plans for complex LANs and WANs with supported elements to include headquarters staff elements, tenant activities, state government, regional operating activities and national agencies. Initiates appropriate measures to maintain network security. Develops plans and procedures for remote installation of applications and upgrades using state of the art software distribution methods. Oversees the distribution of applications and upgrades ensuring compliance with regulations and copyright laws. Establishes procedures to maintain accurate records of authorized users of distributed software. Instructs lower graded information technology (IT) specialists in the administration and maintenance of the installation's network devices. Establishes network trust relationships. Recommends standard operating procedures for all devices on the network. Directs the review and evaluation of proposed software. Directs the analysis of equipment and software reliability and utilization reports to identify and define problem areas and to establish end-to-end systems performance levels. Writes policy and plans for the installation continuity of operations plan (COOP). Serves as network administrator responsible for configuring hubs, and switches, monitoring network performance, performing network diagnostics, analyzing network traffic patterns; and installing network software fixes and upgrades. May be assigned to assist the chief by performing limited leader responsibilities. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Must be a current GS-2210-11 Permanent Dual Status Technician within the G-6.

Qualifications

1. Specialized experience will be used to determine qualifications for the announced position. 2. It must be documented with "from (mm/yy)" and "to (mm/yy)" dates and description of the specialized experience. 4. If education or a degree is required as part of the "Specialized Experience", you must include transcripts. You will be immediately disqualified if you fail to include specialized experience in your resume. Must have at least 36 months of Specialized Experience in each of the following: 1. Experience that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. 2. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. 3. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. 4. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.

Education

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience - For the GS-5 level, a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree may be substituted for the experience requirements. At the GS-7 level, one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. At the GS-9 level, a masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree may be substituted. At the GS-11 level, a Ph.D. or equivalent, or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
