The Maintenance Mechanic AC Sheet is assigned to Maintenance Unit in Facilities Management Service performing Maintenance Mechanic duties, which includes A/C Equipment Mechanic and Sheet Metal Mechanic work. The primary duties are install equipment; recognize origination of faulty equipment; calibrate, modify, relocate, perform maintenance and makes repairs on a variety of large complex refrigeration ·and air conditioning units
Duties
As the Maintenance Mechanic AC Sheet, the incumbent's duties include, but are not limited to:
The incumbent handles equipment, which provides specific temperatures and critical conditions such as blood banks, laboratory equipment, computerized equipment, operating rooms and kitchen and galley equipment and for servicing heat pumps in existing buildings.
The incumbent must maintain, calibrate and balance a wide variety of equipment, which provides heating, humidification, dehumidification, filtration, and ventilation in addition to cooling.
The incumbent must be certified to use Freon when maintaining and making repairs on all types of refrigeration equipment such as; walk-in refrigerators, and freezers, ice cream cabinets, refrigerated food carts, reach-in coolers, ice machines, refrigerated, centrifuge and other refrigerated lab equipment, and any other refrigerant type equipment.
The incumbent must modify systems and balance various elements installed throughout the hospital and offices by contractors in order to produce and meet critical. temperatures or specific conditions.
The incumbent performs tests, plan and layout work details to make modifications with minimum instructions.
The incumbent must be able to assemble using a variety of instruments such as sliproll forming machines, box and pan brakes, rotary machines with extra form rolls and crimpers and beading machines.
The incumbent develops patterns and layouts, cut form, assemble and install items and systems such as deflectors, air-handling units, pans, containers, and metal furniture and all other items and systems which have combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves and planes .
The incumbent must have the ability to dismantle, repair, and reassemble units such as pumps, compressors, receivers, and evaporators.
The incumbent must have knowledge and skill to install and replace damaged pipes and ducts where the areas to be conditioned are a considerable distance from the compressors.

Physical Requirements: Incumbent must exert moderate to arduous physical effort involving walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting, working overhead and crawling. Incumbent must be able to to climb ladders and scaffolding and operate bucket truck. Incumbent must be able to lift loads of up to fifty (50) lbs. Frequently, work will be performed in cramped and awkward positions, including crawlspaces. Also, work is performed on interior and exterior of buildings. work performed is of a precise nature requiring prolonged concentration. Incumbent works at times under conditions of extreme stress and must be able to interact effectively with medical staff and perform work in a calm, analytical manner.
Working Conditions: Incumbent works around and with hazardous mechanical and electrical equipment with the potential for serious injury and/or death. Physical agility and dexterity are required while working around equipment. Incumbent works in close quarters and cramped positions, in service rooms, sub-basement areas and other areas with marginal ventilation. Work is performed in engineering and shop areas, laboratories, offices, and many types of patient areas. Incumbent will sometimes be required to work in environments where the hazards of asbestos, burns, exposure to chemicals, radiation, and contagious diseases exist and will be exposed to various elements of weather when working outside. Incumbent must know and follow procedures for working in areas of infection, radiation, and use all appropriate safety tools, clothing, and other personal protective equipment to protect himself/herself, other staff, patients and visitors at all times.
