Duties

Acts as water safety instructor. Manages all swimming lessons and instructs when scheduled, at the assigned aquatics facility. Develops swim program according to students' ability and promotes students to higher level of swimming according to their skills. Instructs all levels of swimming and appropriate strokes, to include; front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly. Teach students from age groups of infant through adults. Introduces and instructs safety and survival skills to students, when appropriate to level of instruction. Instructors work with lifeguards to ensure that swim lessons are safe at all times.

Requirements

• Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
• A one year probationary period may be required.
• Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
• Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity.
• In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
• Lifeguards must have good vision (corrected vision if necessary) while on duty to effectively recognize all emergencies, incidents and rule breaking.
• Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
• Fifteen (15) year old lifeguards must comply with the restriction of the DOL Child Labors Law (Jan 17, 2006).
• In addition, the incumbent may be subject to additional background checks if required to have regular and recurring contact with children. All required certifications must be kept current.
• May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements. Work hours may involve weekend, weekdays, holidays and night duty.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Possesses and maintains the following certifications: Water Safety Instructor Certification Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) First Aid Certification Highly desirable possession of a Lifeguard Certification (Certificates issued by American Red Cross, Ellis @ Associates, Star Guard or other nationally recognized agencies are acceptable) **If providing a resume, the information provided on your resume should be clear and specific.
