This position is located at a VA medical facility in the Health Professions Education Office and is organizationally aligned under the Associate Chief of Staff for Education, Designated Education Officer (DEO), who reports to the Chief of Staff (COS). This position supports the DEO and HPE Manager in establishing, maintaining, and evaluating the quality of health professions training programs and the quality of care delivered by health professions trainees (HPTs) at the VA medical facility
Duties
Duties may include:
Responsible for long-term planning for Academic Affiliations and provides direct programmatic analysis to the Director Academic Affiliations/VHE
The incumbent collates and develops the preliminary budget related to academic affiliation operations.
The incumbent uses analytical skills, judgment and discretion combined with knowledge of administrative principles, concepts, policies, and objectives to ensure program compliance with VA directives and academic regulatory requirements for all supported programs.
The incumbent serves as a primary liaison with critical persons and groups both inside and outside the organization
The incumbent works closely with clinical services organizationally aligned under the Chief of Staff, ensuring coordination has been achieved prior to approval and implementation of new trainee programs
Provides input on performance management issues and provides input on actions such as performance appraisals, tour of duty changes, and selection on vacancie.
The incumbent plans, schedules, and organizes the orientation of HPTs including sending out invitations, formatting slides, confirming speaker availability, tracking attendance, recording sessions, and providing administrative support before, during, and after meetings under the guidance of the Director.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: The incumbent also implements changes where possible, initiates training, and other actions necessary to improve customer relations. Responsible for long-term planning for Academic Affiliations and provides direct programmatic analysis to the Director Academic Affiliations/VHE. The incumbent serves as a primary liaison with critical persons and groups both inside and outside the organization. Provides input on performance management issues and provides input on actions such as performance appraisals, tour of duty changes, and selection on vacancies.
GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: The incumbent provides budgetary support to the service's Administrative Officer through developing education cost contracts and handling any costs associated with paid trainees. Provide full administrative support, supervision and guidance to Program Support Assistants in Academic Affiliations (AA), while assisting the Director of AA in long-term planning and programmatic analysis of the section. Functions as an advisor and reference point for all staff supporting the educational programs including graduate medical education, graduate dental education, allied health and nursing and undergraduate medical education and associated health program students, both within the VA and with VA's educational affiliates. Responsible for final analysis, recommends controversial actions to remedy critical problems alleviating any chance that accreditation may be threatened.
