The position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs, VHA, VISN 8; VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS) under the Facility Operations Control Center (FOCC). The FOCC provides, operates and maintains a state-of-the-art facility service program in support of the VACHS. This includes the Main Medical Center in San Juan, PR and eleven (11) Outpatient Clinics throughout Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.

Duties

Duties include but not limited to: Operates and monitors Utility Systems. Visits all of the Hospital's critical equipment, once every shift, for preventive maintenance. Required to work different shifts, to maintain the 24-hour, seven day a week shift, and holidays. Responsible for manning all Chiller plants and being in control of all operations, air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, ventilation, fire protection, and all other functions that are integrated and controlled through the complex computer. Monitors potable water pressure set points and water level of the tanks continuously and check the supply of water from the city to the underground water and storage water tanks systems. Operates air-conditioning systems in the FOCC, including regulating comfort areas, rooms, offices and dedicated climate areas. Monitoring Bulk Liquid Oxygen System tanks and Medical Air and Vacuum System. He/she must order the bulk liquid oxygen, be present when tanks are replenished, and keep log of each service. Ensures the following buildings and areas are in proper working condition and also respond immediately in any case of any alarm and should promptly inform the Safety Office or Police Service of any abnormal findings. Must attend all service calls from the Medical Center during weekends, nights, and holidays. Attends to utility failures and examine and troubleshoot the equipment in order to determine the extent of required complex repairs and materials or parts needed; and to estimate the time required to complete the repairs. Must know how to operate the emergency power generators when a power failure occurs. Vast knowledge in Operating Control System, Building Automation System and Computers. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Rotating Monday through Sunday. 8:00am to 4:00pm, 4:00pm to 12:00am, 12:00am to 8:00am. Day off continually changes, Weekends & Holidays. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/12/2024. Physical Requirements: Employee must be able to support prolonged periods of time alone and in closed control room. He/she must be in good physical condition since work involves walking, climbing, bending and working in cramped spaces, and occasionally lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to walk throughout the entire VACHS campus, machinery rooms, roof tops, and tank tops, climb tall ladders, work in hot and loud environments. Working Conditions: This office works rotating shifts, twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. He/she must know how to read and write English in order to understand Manuals of instructions and to make reports. Some plant and cooling tower surrounding areas has variations of extreme heated and cold temperatures; and high noises, which requires personal protective equipment. Possibility exposed to burns when working on and around steam and hot water equipment. He/she must know how to read blueprints, drawings and schematics. The Facility Operations Control Center is operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in three 8 hours shifts (rotating shifts).
