This position is located in the Railroad Retirement Board's Office of General Counsel. The incumbent will be responsible for providing technical and administrative support services to facilitate the day-to-day activities of the Secretary to the Board.

Duties
As an Administrative Specialist, you will:
Review correspondence submitted for Board approval involving any aspect of agency activities.
Analyze and evaluates office systems and develop new or alternative procedures to improve the effectiveness of work methods.
Perform analytical work concerning one or more phases of a unit/section budget.
Develop and implement effective file arrangement system, filing procedures, and filing techniques of official records based on the needs of the office.
Answer telephone calls and greet visitors to the office.
Assist the librarian by researching and identifying relevant documents, reports, or data based on written, telephone, or face-to-face internal research requests.
Requirements

- Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered for Selective Service
- Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications for the GS-11 level:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or higher in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position includes:
(1) ensuring prepared documents are in proper format and spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar have been verified; (2) producing a variety of written documents and information reports utilizing varied and advanced functions in different types of office automation software; (3) developing, modifying and/or implementing office administrative procedures; and (4) verifying that obligations and expenditures occur on time and are within budget.
Time-in grade-restrictions: Applicants who are current or former Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements (52 weeks at the next lower grade level).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
