About the Position: This position is a Public Affairs Specialist, responsible for the development of information about mission programs, projects, activities, and accomplishments.

Duties

Assist in the development of public affairs plans for specific issues or projects and oversee the design of multimedia communications strategies, packages and products. Oversee internet and intranet websites and management of the District’s social media program/efforts. Research, create, and package information on the Web site for both internal/external publics on a wide variety of subjects in support of District missions. Plan, develop, and execute the District Public Affairs Office's multi-media, photography and visual information program. Review photographs and art work for inclusion in the District's quarterly magazine, other publications, exhibits, briefings. Work cooperatively with printer, overseeing layout of publications and approving final copy.

Specialized Experience for GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Experience writing and editing news articles and/or press releases; AND 2) Experience with planning, collecting, verifying, and editing digital video; AND 3) Experience developing computer graphics/desktop publishing. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Oral CommunicationTechnology ApplicationWriting Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
