This position is located at the Blackfeet Service Unit, Behavioral Health Department. The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional counseling services utilizing culturally sensitive treatment modalities. The Mental Health Specialist will demonstrate performance consistent with the mission, philosophy, and goals for the Blackfeet community and Indian Health Services.
Duties
Provides therapeutic services based on comprehensive treatment plans that outline the therapeutic goals, methods, and modality to meet the individualized treatment needs of each patient.
Provides assistance and serves as a consultant to the medical staff providing emergency crisis intervention services to patients who may be at risk of harm to themselves or others.
Develops and manages case management services for the IHS outpatient programs for patients requiring intensive treatment and referral services.
Demonstrate commitment to Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QA/Pl) programs

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-9: One (1) year equivalent to at least GS-7. AND/OR two (2) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree
GS-11: One (1) year equivalent to at least GS-9. AND/OR three (3) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
GS-9: Provide appropriate and therapeutic services to patients; providing consultation and technical assistance on prevention and educational information of suicide, behavioral health practices, and program development; Complete mental health evaluations and/or assist in alcohol or treatment referrals.
GS-11: Collaborate with other health professionals to assess client needs; refer patients to community resources; provide individual or group counseling; coordinate care with expert diagnostic and treatment consultation to medical providers; assess in-patient needs and patient discharge planning; provide therapy to all age groups utilizing a variety of accepted treatment techniques; develop treatment plans; provide interventions surrounding drug, alcohol, co-occurring disorders, and crisis intervention to potentially life-threatening emergencies.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SPF) GS-11:
Must be licensed as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
