Duties

A Laborer (WG-04) loads and unloads trucks, digs ditches, picks up trash, cleans ashes from fire pits, sweeps and cleans out toilets, collecting and emptying garbage cans on a daily basis during normal and inclement weather operations. Performs general grounds maintenance and operates various lawn maintenance equipment to include, but not limited to; riding mowers, push lawn mowers, large complex riding mowers, weed eaters, edger's, chippers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping or grass cutting equipment. May develop planting of grass seed, shrubs, small tress and bush replacement. Performs frequent heavy lifting and pushing of equipment. Operates light duty motor vehicles such as pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, sedans, crew cab pickup trucks, which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of up to 4500 kilograms (10,000 pounds) to transport lawn maintenance equipment, personnel, supplies, materials, and tools. Qualifications

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining your qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your resume. Screen-out Element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. This must be verifiable on your application. To qualify for a WG-04, has experience such as mowing lawns, weeding, planting and fertilizing grass; fixing minor repairs at the facilities such as; unclogging drains, repairing leaks and changing light bulbs; using power tools to cut down brush and make minor repairs; and operate 3/4 ton pickup truck pulling a trailer to transport lawn maintenance equipment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Effort: This position requires very heavy physical laboring and exertion in performing tasks such as: frequent lifting and moving heavy objects and equipment over 50 pounds; pushing wheelbarrows and spreaders; shoveling objects and snow, mowing on steep grades, maneuvering mowing equipment around potholes, ditches, foliage and other obstacles; working from ladders; and carrying bags of grass seed and cement mix regularly. Working Conditions: Assignments are performed inside, outside, in dirty, dusty, greasy, and noisy places, on intermittently slippery or uneven surfaces and hot and humid places. May be exposed to moving objects, elevations in landscape and sharp edges. Incumbent may be exposed to cuts, scrapes, bruises and broken bones. The incumbent will be required to wear safety and protective equipment and clothing, that can be heavy and uncomfortable.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
