Duties

You will disassemble equipment to a degree necessary to perform required repairs. You will make independent decisions consistent with repair process being utilized as to depth of disassembly with the extent of disassembly kept to a minimum so that repairs can be accomplished. You will carry out pre-repair inspection on complete combat vehicles, tactical vehicles, components, assemblies, and systems to determine economic reparability and depth of repair. You will adjust settings (e.g., voltage units, current control units, engine idle, brakes, transmission linkages) in accordance with manufacturer's manuals. You will make repairs upon vehicle or remove engines, transmissions, transfers, and other related parts and components so specialized shops may correct troubles. You will inspect and evaluate components and parts using exacting specifications such as technical manual, process standards, drawings, blueprints, and precision measuring and gauging devices such as micrometers, and pressure gauges.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Must be able to lift 40 to 50 pounds as necessary and occasionally, with assistance, lifts up to 100 pounds.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current United States Motor Vehicle Operator license.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic tasks to include fitting and installing parts (i.e. pistons, valves, bearings, gears, and cylinders) to appropriate tolerances and making changes or modifications in accordance with specifications and guidelines. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
