This position is located in the Congressional Affairs Unit, Office of Public and Congressional Affairs, Bureau of Consular Affairs, (CA/FO/P). The Congressional Affairs Unit provides Congressional liaison on consular matters including outreach to Congressional staffers and in-reach to CA staff; analyzes and follows the progress of proposed legislation concerning consular matters in the context of political environment in Congress; and coordinates Bureau responses to special information.

Duties

Provides Congressional liaison on consular matters including outreach to Congressional staffers Analyzes and follows the progress of proposed legislation concerning consular matters Coordinates Bureau responses to special information requests from Congress and other U.S. Government agencies Provides a broad range of analytical and advisory functions focused on planning and advancing the bureau's legislative policy agenda Works closely with the Bureau of Legislative Affairs (H) to coordinate activities and messaging on bureau legislative priorities

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all the qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement. If you are qualifying based on education OR if there are mandatory education requirements listed below, you MUST submit a copy of your college transcript with your application.  Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience with preparing colleagues, including senior leadership, for engagements with Congress Members and their staff Experience with monitoring committee hearings Experience with making realistic evaluations of the political environment Experience with U.S. foreign policy There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.
