About the Position: This position is in the AvMC Software, Simulation, Systems Engineering and Integration Directorate, Technical Management Division, located at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. This is a STRL demonstration project position. Current employees on a Renewable Term Position are eligible to apply for this position in accordance with P.L. 115-232, Section 1112. Duties

Manage systems engineering projects for weapon systems integrating multiple disciplines through Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) processes. Utilize systems engineering principles to define requirements, architectures, integrations, and other system artifacts for missile and aviation systems using MBSE modeling techniques. Manage the technical development, planning, and implementation of infrastructure, MBSE tools, project planning, and coordination for MBSE projects for defense customers with collaboration across projects. Mentor and develop junior team members in MBSE processes through collaboration with customers and other agencies for best practices.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • Foundational Career Level Certification in Engineering and Technical Management must be met within 3 years.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT FOR 0801 SERIES: Possess a degree in Engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by: Professional Registration or Licensure-- Current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions. or Possess a combination of education and experience-- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by: Written Test -- Evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional registration, which is administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.-or-Possess a combination of education and experience-- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by: Specified Academic Courses -- Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional Engineering curriculum as described in paragraph A. or Possess a combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by: Related Curriculum -- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. (The above examples of related curricula are not all-inclusive.) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required specialized experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for specialized experience is permitted. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the DB-03/GS 13, or equivalent, grade level in experience designing and executing Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) initiatives, experience leading teams and mentoring junior engineers or scientists, experience developing MBSE models related to missile or aviation applications, and experience leading program management activities such as managing, organizing, analyzing, evaluating, and coordinating complex cross-agency projects throughout the project life cycle.
