You will serve as a Explosives Safety Specialist in the Safety and Occupational Health Division of NAS CORPUS CHRISTI and NAS KINGSVILLE.

Duties

You will advise others on explosives safety standards, practices, or procedures to minimize potential safety hazards. You will administer and evaluate an explosives safety program to oversee the safe and efficient handling, storage, transportation, disposal, and treatment of explosives. You will facilitate safety meetings or training classes to stay apprised of accident trends or regulatory changes. You will investigate explosive accident causes to assess the potential for recurrence and recommend corrective methods for prevention. You will speak with other personnel to share and exchange information on new developments and obtain technical opinions to ways to resolve explosives or ordnance safety and health problems. You will write formal reports to identify and report deficiencies within the explosives safety program.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Planning, organizing, and providing training on the explosives safety program for the installation; 2) Ensuring compliance with explosives safety policy and regulations; 3) Identifying potential explosives safety hazards/threats and recommending procedures to minimize or eliminate the hazard/threat; 4) Performing periodic/unscheduled inspections of facilities (both explosive handling and non-explosive handling), warehouses, and equipment maintenance operation areas to ensure compliance with explosive safety standards; and 5) Advising others on explosives safety standards, practices, or procedures to minimize potential safety hazards. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR
Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree OR
Successful completion of an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.
