This Direct-Hire position is located at the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA), Office of Regulatory Science (ORS), Office of Medical Products and Specialty Laboratory Operations (OMPSLO), Forensic Chemistry Center (FCC).

Duties

Develop and maintain segments of the quality control/assurance program that assures quality work products and offer clear guidelines and quality standards. Work closely with the supervisor in guiding, coordinating, and monitoring the overall quality of work products and management systems. Make recommendations within the Laboratory and/or District on instrumentation and other technical modifications, as well as changes to existing quality assurance programs. Provide advisory, liaison and consultative services for quality assurance programs related to one or more disciplines. Identify training needs from quality system results and develop training plans to satisfy those needs.

Qualifications

The position of Interdisciplinary Scientist falls under the 0401/1320 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-12, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 02/16/2024. Only education and experience gained by this date will be considered. Basic Requirements To qualify for the 0401 job series, applicants must possess: A degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR- A combination of education and experience in courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. To qualify for the 1320 job series, applicants must possess: A degree in physical sciences, life sciences or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. -OR- A combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to major as shown above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications: Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To qualify for the GS-12, applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade of GS-11 or equivalent band level of responsibility in the Federal Service which includes: Planning, developing, and maintaining laboratory quality assurance programs; reviewing and evaluating results of scientific analysis conducted under the quality assurance programs; preparing summaries/reports addressing problems or deficiencies in order to improve the program. FOREIGN EDUCATION
