Works for the Central Virginia VA Health Care System in Richmond, Virginia, as a direct report to the Social Work Service, and is assigned to the Inpatient Team under Social Work Service.

Duties

Provides direct patient care which includes but not limited to psychosocial assessments, case management, care coordination, and discharge planning. Must use a high level of skill in assessing the complicated bio-psychosocial problems of Veterans admitted to the inpatient units. As a part of an interdisciplinary team, assess the bio- psychosocial stressors that have contributed to a patient's hospitalization; assists in the formation of the treatment plan; and develops a carefully thought out plan for treatment and discharge. Conducts meetings with patients and their families, and collaborate with outpatient providers and community agencies to realize a plan that utilizes the patient's strengths and existing supports. Serves as the program coordinator and is administratively responsible for psychosocial program providing services to patients in the ICU, Surgery Unit, and Transplant Services. Has supervisory and administrative responsibility for the management of the assigned social workers who function within the ICU, Surgery Unit, and Transplant Services. Assists in planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures; developing individual or group goals and objectives, as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating, and overseeing the Social Work staff. The ICU, Surgery Unit, and Transplant Services Social Work Supervisor will assure the Social Workers whom they supervise are aware of and adhere to all current directives of VHA, and meet current JCAHO standards, State licensure standards, and VA-OIG expectations. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/13/2024. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Policy. Education. A master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. (Copy of licensure) PROOF OF LICENSURE AND COLLEGE TRANSCRIPT(S) MUST BE INCLUDED WITH YOUR APPLICATION PACKAGE GS-12 Social Worker Experience and Education- One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification- Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.
