These positions are located within the Accounts Management department at the West Consolidated Patient Accounts Center in Las Vegas, NV. The Financial Accounts Technician is responsible for the accounts receivable (collection) functions of the revenue program including third-party insurance reimbursements and other account receivables.
Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Performs analysis on outstanding third-party receivables.
Initiates or performs all follow-up action based upon Lead or Supervisor provided worklists.
Receives, processes, and responds to a variety of communications generated by third-party payers.
Audits, analyzes and reviews information regarding the established third-party receivable to discuss the status of the account when inquiry is made on follow-up.
Actively contacts and pursues insurance companies and other third party payers to expedite collections.
Performs follow-up analysis on claims to ensure expected payments are received and consistent and in accordance with the specific policy and/or regulatory rules.
Maintains and updates computerized records of debts to document collection efforts and identify trends for management.
Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974, The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy.
Provides customer service to meet the needs of customers while supporting the VA mission with the specified guidelines.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-05 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in Federal Service that has equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Financial Accounts Technician GS-5. Specialized experience includes: experience performing collection functions for third-party healthcare insurance reimbursements and other account receivables; handling a variety of correspondence generated by third-party payers; performing follow-up analysis on claims; maintaining records of debt collection efforts. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title; duties; month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. -OR-
EDUCATION: Have successfully completed four (4) years above high school in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. -OR-
COMBINATION: Have an equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total qualification requirements for this grade level. For the GS-05 only the semester hours in excess of the first 60 semester hours can be used in place of experience. NOTE: Your experience must be documented in your resume and transcripts are required.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates.
