Duties

Plans, coordinates, and carries out the successive steps in fact-finding and analysis of issues necessary to complete each facet of assigned projects. provides information and assistance in person, written, electronic, or telephonic inquiries concerning all military healthcare programs. Determines the most effective course(s) of action to counsel service members on specific steps required for resolving healthcare authorization issues including their appeals rights and the appeals process. Performs research for resolving informal complaints and problems presented by service members, military units, or health care providers. Consults with Nurse Consultants or Senior Authorization Specialists as indicated. Researches each request for specialty care for DEERS eligibility, enrollment status, unit of assignment, covered benefit status, and appropriateness of care as related to the diagnosis.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes interpreting regulations and/or standard operating procedures; coordinating with military personnel regarding benefit eligibility; and utilizing healthcare programs and/or databases. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
