This position is located in the Audiology and Speech - Language Pathology Service (ASPS) at the VA Central Western MA Healthcare System- Plantation Street VA Clinic-Worcester MA. The duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the medical center including all clinical and patient care areas involved with the service. Incumbent is a licensed independent practitioner and supervises the staff Audiologists and Speech Pathologists at the Plantation Street VA Clinic Worcester MA.
Duties
Duties for this position includes but are not limited to:
Exercises supervisory responsibilities such as planning and scheduling work; assigning work to employees; accepting, amending or rejecting completed work; assuring that production and accuracy requirements are met; appraising performance and recommending performance standards and ratings; assigning delineated clinical privileges; approving leave; and handling disciplinary measures as needed.
Responsible for evaluating the competencies of the Audiology staff to ensure that the care provided is appropriate.
Responsible for ensuring adequate clinical coverage and coordinating scheduling of Audiology staff to meet the needs of the organization.
Ensure proper coordination of efficient health care delivery between permanent Audiology staff and intermittent staff.
Responsible for development of training, competencies and hiring practices for Audiology staff to ensure excellence in care delivery.
Responsible for supervision and administrative management of other members of the ASPS service line in the absence of the Chief of ASPS, or designee.
Responsible for management of comprehensive clinical services and is the point of contact for daily workflow issues.
Alerts the Chief of ASPS, or designee, to anticipated situations that may adversely affect delivery of clinical services and obtains assistance on problems that may arise.
Ability to set priorities and delegate tasks, meet multiple deadlines, analyze organizational and operational problems, and develop and implement effective solutions. Has skill in interpersonal relationships, conflict management, and negotiation in in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers; Skills as facilitator and/or negotiator in coordinating initiatives and consensus building activities among clinical team members and across teams with widely divergent backgrounds, interest and points of view.
Ability to serve on medical center, regional or national committees related to Audiology and/or Speech-Language Pathology.

Qualifications
1. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
2. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
3. Education: The individual must meet at least one of the following requirements below:
Doctor of Audiology (AuD) from an audiology program recognized by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). OR
Other doctoral degree in hearing science or a directly related field from an institution accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
4. Licensure: Individuals must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a United States state, territory, commonwealth or the District of Columbia.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations: Supervisory Audiologist, GS-13.
Experience: At least two years of experience as a professional audiologist, with at least one year comparable to the next lower grade level. Experience would include but are not limited to: Engaging in the differential diagnosis of the full range of hearing problems associated with (a) functional, (b) mixed, (c) conductive, (d) sensory, (e) neural, (f) sensorineural, and (g) central hearing loss. In diagnosing these problems, conducts and interprets the complete range of specialized and refined audiologic test procedures currently available. Included also is having the ability to deal professionally with patients who present with (a) inconsistent behavior, (b) conflicting test results, and (c) multiple handicaps that inhibit the utilization of normal audiologic test procedures.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs). In addition to the KSAs required at the full performance level, the candidate must demonstrate the KSAs identified below.
(a) Skill in conflict resolution to facilitate positive working relationships between employees, team leaders and managers.
(b) Skill in applying evidence-based practices in a professional area.
(c) Ability to analyze organizational and operational challenges to develop and implement solutions.
(d) Ability to develop the abilities and strengths of current employees.
(e) Ability to balance responsibilities, set priorities and delegate tasks to meet multiple deadlines.
(f) Ability to analyze data to manage workload, quality, performance and productivity within the section
Preferred Experience: Clinical oversight of workload and assignment of work to employees.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13.
Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary, and most of the duties can be accomplished sitting comfortably, while others require walking, standing, bending, and carrying or moving items, such as carts, notebooks, papers, and books. The work is performed in an office and Medical Center setting. Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled office. The work environment includes everyday low risks, or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of offices.
