The primary purpose of this position is to troubleshoot, test, repair, modify, overhaul, service, and dispatch non-powered and powered ground support equipment in-support of the USN Triton aircraft.

Duties

- Maintain, inspect, service, transport, and manage ground support equipment according to technical guidance/instructions/handbooks as applicable. - Performs preventive maintenance and equipment delivery/dispatch to include periodic, routine, and special inspections of all equipment as scheduled. - Performs major repair, replacement, and overhaul of power support system components such as diesel, multi-fuel, or gas turbine engines, and electrical accessories of engines. - Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctioning equipment. - Maintains and controls tools. Maintains records and documents actions. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

• The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle up to and including a 2-1/2 ton truck. An appropriate valid driver’s license, government issued license, and airfield driving competency card may be required for the position.
• Position may require the employee to operate a forklift up to 15,000 pound capacity to move heavy power support equipment.
• Shift work may be required. The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
• Emergency overtime may be required.
• May be required to train/guide lower-graded (or other trades) military/civilian employees.
• This is a Drug testing position. The employee is subject to Random Drug Testing.
• This position is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations.
• Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available.
• This is a Mission Essential position performing a Mission Critical Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 - Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the Ability To Do the Work of a Powered Support Systems Mechanic without More than Normal Supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of principles of electricity (AC/DC), solid state circuitry, and safety rules and regulations pertaining to powered support systems; and the operation of emergency generator power systems. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security. Knowledge of the theory and operation of internal combustion diesel and gasoline engines. Knowledge of equipment placement around aircraft, radio discipline and flight-line driving procedures. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures; environmental standards and requirements; and regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures. Skill in reading, interpreting, and using wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, technical orders, technical publications, and similar guides. Skill in using hand and power tools, instruments, test equipment, and electrical meters to include special tools such as hydraulic knock-out tools, hammers, drills, valve spring compressors, and micrometers. Ability to apply shop procedures, policies, written and oral instructions, and directives sufficient to provide training to others. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. Ability to repair jacks, ladders, platforms, trailers, stands and other non-powered equipment. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Performs work that involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement. Sometimes must work in awkward positions or cramped areas. Must frequently lift and carry items weighing up to about 40 pounds and lift heavier items using jacks, hoists, or helpers. WORKING CONDITIONS: May work inside or outside. Inside work involves frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperature, and loud noise. Outside work may involve exposure to bad weather, rain, or snow, or wet or icy conditions. Both inside and outside, frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces. May work on parts and systems which are dirty and greasy, and which may be dangerous to operate or repair because of defects. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, strains, and electrical shock while repairing, positioning, adjusting, and moving equipment and is exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the incumbent must follow numerous safety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eyeglasses, ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, gloves, and clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn or used for long periods. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
