The incumbent has primary responsibility for serving as personal administrative assistant to the Director involving a wide range and variety of administrative and secretarial duties. The principal function of this position is to relieve the Director of as many routine day-to-day administrative details as possible, maintain a smooth flow of communication in and out of the office and perform office management duties.
Duties
The incumbent assists as the Office Assistant for the Medical Center Director and provides secretarial support to the Medical Center Director.
Has primary responsibility for serving as personal administrative assistant to the Director involving a wide range and variety of administrative and secretarial duties.
As the Director's confidential assistant, establishes and maintains the Director's files of correspondence and documents.
Receives calls and visitors.
Makes travel arrangements.
Maintains good personal relation with all employees of the medical center, general public, Congressional staff, VHA personnel and Veterans and their families

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/09/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-8 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Specialized Experience: Specialized Experience GS-08: Do you have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-07) in the Federal service that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled? Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: comprehensive knowledge of the duties, priorities, commitments, policies, and program goals of the Medical Center and our Integrated Care Communities (ICCs); managing sensitive information, including patient concerns, that could result in litigation and disciplinary/adverse actions, maintaining good judgement and confidentiality at all times; solving problems requiring awareness by and/or action by the Medical Center Director; ; noting and following-up on commitments made at meetings and conferences by executive team members, leaders, department heads, and other staff members. Experience with a variety of different software, office automation, and computer systems. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:
