This position is in the Mental Health Service of the Iron Mountain, Michigan VA Medical Center. As the Local Recovery Coordinator (LRC), the incumbent serves to: 1) assist in implementation of policies and procedures from the National Recovery Coordinator (NRC) and 2) oversee, facilitate and promote hospital wide recovery-oriented services, which includes education of providers and Veterans and their families on recovery and evaluation of implementation efforts.

VA Careers - Social Work: https://youtube.com/embed/enRhz_ua_UU Social worker responsibilities are directed toward (a) helping patients and families cope with the crisis of illness; (b) maximizing social and interpersonal functioning of patients; (c) promoting vocational and social rehabilitation; (d) providing education to patients and interdisciplinary team members on the psychosocial impact of illness and disease progression; (e) facilitating the patient's return to the community at the highest level of functioning possible; (f) working with terminally ill patients and bereaved families; (g) developing special approaches to provide solutions to unique social problems; (h) coordinating discharge planning, including providing information and referral services and accessing and coordinating community resources/services; and (i) providing case management services. Clinical social workers conduct behavioral health/mental health assessments, make DSM-5 diagnoses, create behavioral health/mental health treatment plan, and offer psychotherapeutic services. Major Duties include: The Local Recovery Coordinator at the GS-12 grade is administratively responsible for overseeing Recovery based care to Veterans and Recovery education to hospital staff, families, Caregivers and community members. Manage the daily operation of the program, develop policies and procedures for program operation, and prepare reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use. Serves as a recovery ombudsman to the Chief of Mental Health Services, program managers, and staff on recovery and implementation of recovery-oriented services. Represents the facility's local recovery program in contacts with community agencies and Veterans Integrated System Network (VISN) 12 and serves as the interface between national and local planning initiatives, offering oversight and guidance. Develops a 3-5-year plan for the facility that identifies staged implementation of recovery-oriented services. Responsible for coordinating the evaluation of recovery implementation at the facility and reporting results to the NRC. Implement measures to assess recovery policy and procedures adherence, as well as assess the extent that the recovery model is embodies in the facility's programs. Advises the Chief, Mental Health service on filling peer specialist positions and serves as a clinical supervisor and consultant to peer specialists. Assists with VA, regional and/or local recovery-oriented trainings, meetings, or conferences as needed. Serves as a mental health liaison to the facility's consumer council. Participates in facility MH leadership meetings and policy planning groups. Creates educational tools, develops programs and implements training focused on specific Recovery needs/issues. Provides education and in-service training to VAMC employees, Veterans, families and Caregivers. Distributes educational materials provided by VA, local, state and national Recovery organizations. Independently performs case finding functions and outreach, identifying and screening patients for psychosocial needs Conducts psychosocial assessments. Develops treatment plans in collaboration with the veteran/family and with the interdisciplinary treatment team. Incumbent possesses the skills to offer psychosocial interventions and measures outcomes to interventions. The incumbent makes referrals as appropriate to groups, individual therapies and other complementary services for specialty care Coordinates community-based services, including information and referral for additional services from other VA programs, other government programs and community agency programs. Provides crisis intervention services, seeking to address the cause as well as the presenting complaint. Provides administrative supervision and programmatic oversight to peer support services.. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8-4:30. All mental health licensed independent providers participate in an on-call coverage schedule, ensuring day time (7a-6p) mental health availability to Urgent Care on all government holidays (i.e., typically one holiday covered per year, per employee). Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to http://vaww.va.gov/OHRM/T38Hybrid/. Loss of Licensure or Certification. Once licensed or certified, social workers must maintain a full, valid, and unrestricted independent license or certification to remain qualified for employment. Loss of licensure or certification will result in removal from the GS-0185 social worker series and may result in termination of employment. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Social Worker (Program Coordinator), GS-12 Experience and Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary, but may require walking, bending, standing, and /or carrying of light items such as files and manuals. The work does not require any special physical effort or ability.
