This Custodial Worker position is located in the Environmental Service Department at the Whiteriver Service Unit (WRSU) in Whiteriver, Arizona. The Incumbent will be responsible for routine, interim, and terminal cleaning specialized cleaning procedures in the Emergency Room (ER) Department and the Central Sterilization and Reprocessing (CSR) Department using knowledge and techniques of specialized cleaning procedures. The Incumbent will be supervised by the Supervisor, WRSU.
Duties
Performs housekeeping functions such as scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors; dusting and washing walls and windows. Clean lavatories, patient beds and units; vacuum carpets, cleans emergency and delivery rooms, offices and storage areas. Moves heavy furniture, supplies and equipment; uses heavy industrial cleaning equipment and performs preventative maintenance as required. Follows the procedures of personal protective equipment (PPE), and proper hospital techniques when cleaning and working in contaminated areas, isolation rooms and OB rooms (i.e. caps, gowns, gloves and changing uniforms daily for protection from contacting diseases). Collects and prepares soiled linen for laundry pick-up; receives and shelves clean linen. Assists with the collection and disposal of medical wastes and nonmedical wastes within the hospital.
Ensures proper sanitation standards and infection control requirements are maintained.
Uses judgment in maintaining sanitary condition of the hospital with consideration to patients.
Follows proper cleaning techniques when working in contaminated areas of the hospital.
Follows safety and sanitary rules for materials and equipment used.
Qualifications

You have the ability to perform the work of a Custodial Worker without more than normal supervision.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderately heave physical effort in moving, standing up, and working from ladders and scaffolds; lifting and moving objects weighing 40 pounds or more; and using heavy powered cleaning equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation with exposure to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc., and to serious injuries from falls from ladders and scaffolds or when using heavy powered equipment.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
