About the Position: This position is located in the Garrison Public Affairs Office at Hunter Army Airfield, GA.
Duties
Serve as a direct link to the civilian community to garner understanding and support of the military.
Provide assistance and advice on community relations operating procedures to installation commanders and staff agencies.
Plan and coordinate special events, activities, programs and projects that effectively meet the overall communication plan for the installation.
Write news, feature, editorial, and sports stories.
Serve as the official spokesperson for all Hunter Army Airfield units and activities with civilian news media agencies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires incumbent must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Position requires incumbent to have completed, or be able to complete within one year of appointment, the Defense Information School's (DINFOS) Public Affairs Officer Qualification Course, or the Basic Public Affairs Specialist Course (BPASC).
- Position requires incumbent to have completed or be able to complete within one year of appointment, the Content Managers Course.
- A valid state driver's license is required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience writing informational materials such as news releases, fact sheets, brochures, and speeches; assisting with planning outreach programs such as public meetings, project tours and site visits, and stakeholder engagements; developing relationships with local, regional, and national media; and serving as media representative and spokesperson for an organization.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
All applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcements. Current employees applying under VEOA are subject to time-in-grade restrictions like any other GS employee.
