You will serve as a GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM SPECIALIST for COMMANDER NAVY REGION HAWAII. A Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) of 8.90% will be added to the stated salary. COLA is subject to change at any time.

Duties

You will accomplish mapping and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) tasks using knowledge of geography, planning, architecture, engineering, and related disciplines. You will create and provide maps in support of assigned personnel. You will develop long range work plans for project development. You will conduct studies (e.g., benchmark studies) to identify problems found within geographical information.

  • This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • May be directed to deploy on short notice in advance of, or in response to, major incidents and events within the Region to augment the Regional Emergency Response Group operations or installation-level EOC staffs.
  • Work may require occasional travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal Service or equivalent in public or private sector performing the following duties: 1) Using Special Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment to provide data in support of Anti Terrorism/Force Protection/Emergency Management. 2) Interpreting statistical tabulations of geographical information; 3) Compiling, analyzing, and displaying information/data required by incident response operations. 4) Reconciling data within geodatabases; 5) Assessing GIS capabilities to develop solutions for data display requirements to support incident response operations. 6) Maintaining models and scripts for geographical data inventory and data validity. Basic Requirements
Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education
