This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), Research Services. The purpose of this position is to perform a broad range of functions required for the acquisition, storage, maintenance, and access of NARA's archival Federal and Court holdings. The work affects the accuracy and reliability of records accessioning, archival space management, intellectual and physical control of records, and discovery and access to NARA's holdings.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As an Archives Specialist, you will:
Carry out a wide variety of complex actions required to transfer the legal and physical custody of federal agency or court records to NARA.
Assist in the planning and coordination of partnership or internal digitization activities.
Coordinate, oversee, or provides public services to individuals, agencies, and organizations in order to provide access to NARA's holdings.
Carry out a wide range of actions required for processing archival records according to NARA policies, procedures, and standards.
Plan, oversee, and/or carry out holding's maintenance actions needed to preserve NARA's holdings and make them available for use.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Utilizing a wide range of systems or databases to search beyond readily accessible material to locate, analyze, index, and/or manage records; AND
Independently performing analytical and research techniques to deliver reference and research assistance to individuals, agencies and/or organizations; AND
Performing or providing physical and intellectual controls in adherence with archival principles and organization procedures and practices.
OR
EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
OR
COMBINATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination of education and experience will be identified in the assessment questions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Utilizing a wide range of systems or databases to search beyond readily accessible material to locate, analyze, index, and/or manage records; AND
Performing record maintenance and preservation in adherence with archival principles, procedures and record keeping practices.
OR
EDUCATION: Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.
OR
COMBINATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination of education and experience will be identified in the assessment questions.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-11, you must have been at the GS-09level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-09, you must have been at the GS-07 level for 52 weeks.
