This position is located in Medical Care Services at the VA Salem Health Care System in Salem, VA. The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the Chief, Medical Care Services, and assist other administrative and clinical staff within the Service Line.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** MAJOR DUTIES: Coordinates the work of the office of the Chief, Medical Care Services, with the work of other offices. Maintains a system of program-specific data to track suspension items such as project milestones and provide support for various consult and encounter reports. Provides organizational and data management support for the medical staff Critical Care Committee. Coordinates and communicates mandatory education requirements, populates data and tracks and reports service compliance. Provides administrative and technical support for 17 medical sub-specialty program sections with Medical Care Services to include Cardiology, Renal Nephrology/Dialysis, Dermatology, Hospital Medicine, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, Infectious Disease, Hematology-Oncology, Neurology, Neuro-diagnostics, Pain Management, Endocrinology, Pulmonary/Critical Care, Acute Care/ICU, Sleep Medicine, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Quick Care Clinic and Emergency Department for documentation and communication of program issues/compliance. Prepares reports and correspondence. Provides both administrative and technical support in the forms of correspondence, travel requests, and preparation of personnel-related matters. Functions as primary Service timekeeper covering an assigned portion of both original and corrected timecard entry requirements. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications

TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT FOR GS-6: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience performing administrative support duties to include all or most of the following: reception (greeting visitors and answering phones), scheduling appointments, timekeeping, preparing reports and/or correspondence, taking meeting minutes, maintaining files, and utilizing office automation software. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: ClericalCommunicationsComputer SkillsManages and Organizes Information IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
