The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct administrative support to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Office and assistance to the Equal Employment Opportunity Manager. This position triages visitors and correspondence to the appropriate grievance process, mediation or other alternative method to process the request, allowing more efficient use of EEO resources.

Duties

As the Program Support Assistant, you will: Support the EEO Office by responding to routine questions within all functional areas of EEO. Conducts regulatory research to support responses. Gather, review, consolidate, and in some instances, prepare required paperwork associated with a variety of actions, ranging in difficulty from routine to complex in nature. Establish and maintain administrative and functional files. Manipulates and retrieves personnel/position data from various personnel databases for reports or other uses by employees, supervisors and managers. Screen telephone calls, receives visitors, and is responsible for mail pickup, delivery, sorting and distribution. Perform work related to the acquisition, procurement, purchase card and/or development of program information and replenishing and maintaining resource materials/supplies/service contracts to support the policy development and/or technical activities of the EEO Office. Use personal computer, electronic typewriter, word processing and/or other office automation equipment, and various software programs to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve, and print a variety of documents; produce correspondence, memoranda, directives, forms, reports; create or maintain spreadsheets or databases; etc. in support of EEO. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 0730-1600 Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/13/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Typing Proficiency: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the Specialized Experience requirement, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. In addition to the Typing Proficiency, you must meet the Specialized Experience described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Provide direct administrative support to an office; Respond to routine questions received by telephone, email and walk-ins; Maintain administrative and functional files; Create or maintain spreadsheets and databases; Manipulate and retrieve personnel/position data from various databases for reports; and Perform work related to acquisition, procurement, purchase card to replenish and maintain resource materials, supplies, service contracts to support an office. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Attention to DetailClericalTechnical Problem Solving Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, you will sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some waling, standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
