This position is located in the Plant Engineering Section of the San Francisco Mint . As an Engineering Technician, you will be providing complete support to engineers and maintenance and production staff in accomplishing all projects related to new or improved manufacturing equipment and maintenance processes from conceptualization to installation and testing.
Duties
As an Engineering Technician, you will:
Provide on-site technical support in the design, development, and implementation of maintenance processes; the adoption of the latest technology in updating equipment and other production mechanisms; the planning, design, development, and implementation of machining methods; monitoring implementation; and the testing of improvements.
Review regular reports of maintenance and manufacturing activities and identifies aberrant maintenance patterns, equipment operation problems, and systems deficiencies.
Review and provide comments to specifications on new equipment design, layout, work flow, safety, maintenance, set-up procedures, and all other items related to the proper installation or incorporation of new equipment or attachments.
Administer the Division's computer operations related to the AutoCAD System.
Design and/or develop computerized drawings for a variety of new, ongoing, and continuing projects.
Coordinates and provides AutoCAD and related hardware training, gives demonstrations, and prepares and issues procedural instructions to users on the enhancement features of the hardware and software; develops and provides equipment user operating procedures and documentation.
Develops and prepares preliminary and complete drawings using the AutoCAD system. Designs and or develops computerized drawings for a variety of new, ongoing, and continuing projects.
Qualifications

Specialized Experience for the GS-12: Specialized experience is one year of experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent in other public or private sectors, that is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized experience is defined as:
- Supporting design and maintenance operations in a manufacturing facility; AND
- Using computer aided design tools (such as Auto CAD) to create, edit, and maintain drawings for the building and production equipment.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-12 you must have been at the GS-11 level for 52 weeks.
