Duties

As a Microbiologist (Bilingual) you will: Perform non research microbiology and/or biological science support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents. Carry out a variety of laboratory procedures and processes as it relates to form, structure, genetics, taxonomy and cytology as they relate to microorganisms and their reaction to physical and chemical factors in the environment, their role as pathogenic and immunizing agents, and their isolation, cultivation, identification and systematic classification. Acquire and organize materials and information to carry out study procedures for assigned projects. Use standard technology, making adaptations to procedures and accepted practices when necessary. Calibrate and operate laboratory instruments that are necessary to independently perform tests, analyses and other procedures in conducting experiments and studies. computer systems, methods and applications including commercial statistical and data management software packages. Present oral and/or written reports on study results, findings and recommendations

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Degree: microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent. or Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include the following experience in conducting molecular or immunological techniques related to the diagnosis of diseases (e.g., arboviral); and managing, tracking and handling laboratory instrumentation, information systems and data compliance. In addition to meeting the above basic and minimum qualification requirements, applicants must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking Spanish. Selective Placement Factors (SPF) are special qualification requirements, in addition to the minimum requirements, that are essential in successfully performing the duties of the job. If SPF experience is not documented in your resume, you will not receive further consideration under this announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
