This is a full-time Temporary NTE 1 year position and serves as the Visual Information Specialist for Katahdin Woods and Waters NM.
The anticipated entrance on duty for this position is: March/April of 2024.
Duties
This position will work for the Supervisory Park Ranger (Interpretation) at Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument and supports public outreach through multi-media projects.
Duties are as follows:
-Provides visual and audio production services to all park divisions using nationally established guidelines and industry standards.
-Plans the visual aspects of printed materials such as books, pamphlets, magazines, newspapers, posters, handouts, activity schedules, bulletins, technical reports, trip planners, periodicals and other similar material which is produced by a printing process.
-Recommends passages to be illustrated, selected illustrative material to be used and plans the appearance of each page.
-Works with consultants to develop marketing text and to coordinate products; creates electronic files ready for delivery to commercial printers.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment.

Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis.(TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

Have documented record of work experience that meets the definition requirement for the Individual Occupational / Basic Qualifications Requirement for the for the Visual Information, GS-1084 Series, which requires experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other artwork, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means.
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: providing visual and audio production services to all park divisions using nationally established guidelines and industry standards; planning the preparation and use of visual aspects of printed materials such as books, handouts, bulletins, etc. for use in communicating information through visual means; planning, coordinating, publicizing, and managing special events. You must include hours per week worked.

Successful completion of at least a master's or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. Examples of major studies - commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a COMBINATION of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience first take the number of semester hours (or equivalent) earned towards a graduate degree, in excess of 18 semester hours, and divide by 18 semester hours (or equivalent). Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.
You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies"
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using
education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.
