Position is located under the Division of Clinical Services with the Zuni-Ramah Service Unit, Zuni, New Mexico. The purpose of the position is to provide patient services and basic case management in continuity clinics as well as in Urgent Care (Outpatient setting). Incumbent will report to the Supervisory Physician (FP). Incumbent will work during regular business hours and subject to rotating shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Duties
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: INDIAN HEALTH SERVICE WIDE
Performs intake procedures by obtaining chief complaint, purpose of visit, vital signs, including pain screening,
Operates and monitors equipment (digital and manual scales, tympanic and oral thermometers, manual and electronic blood pressure machines.
Reviews patient charts via electronic health record and determines/carries out preventive care needs, including colorectal cancer screenings, diabetic foot checks, women's health screening referrals.
Requests/retrieves records from outside facilities and works with Purchase Referred Care and Medical Records to provide status updates on referrals.
Administers immunizations without supervision. Records immunizations in the NMSIIS System.
Sets up room for procedures and pelvic exams and other specific needs. Informs patient of prescribed procedures, prepares patient, assists during procedures, as needed.
Performs less complex dressing and treatments without assistance. Assist with cleaning, irrigating, and dressing complex wounds; documents and informs RN of non-healing wounds. Performs skin care measures.
Applies various orthopedic soft goods and splints necessary for the treatment of various orthopedic injuries.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-05: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Experience performing intake procedures by obtaining chief complaint; purpose of visit, experience taking vital signs, i.e., temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, height, weight,, and pain screening.
OR
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelors degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
OR
A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level.
GS-06: One (1) year full time specialized esperience equivalent to the Gs-05 grade level that equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Experience performing review of patient charts via Electronic Health Record (EHR); experience determining and carrying out preventative care needs according to standing orders that include colorectal cancer screening, diabetic foot check, women's health screening referral; and experience notifying medical provider of abnormal findings.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
