Duties

This position functions as an entry level Hydromechanic, Apprentice who will be formally trained through an established apprenticeship program to perform mechanical tasks associated with power plant machinery and equipment maintenance. The apprenticeship training program will be conducted in accordance with the National Apprenticeship and Training Standards as approved by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Grand Coulee Power Office Joint Apprenticeship Committee. Upon satisfactory completion of the apprenticeship, the employee(s) perform the full range of journey-worker Hydromechanic duties. Apprenticeship Program: Selection of applicants from this vacancy announcement will be made in accordance with the Bureau of Reclamation's Apprenticeship program. The training portion of this program will be in accordance with the Standards of Apprenticeship approved by the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council for the positions at the Grand Coulee Power Office. The apprenticeship program for Hydromechanic, BB-5352-00 positions consists of an 8000-hour training program composed of eight 6-month segments. Upon successful completion of each 6-month segment of training and approval of the Joint Apprenticeship Committee, pay increases will be granted in accordance with negotiated wage schedule. In addition to satisfactorily completing the on-the-job training, apprentices are required to complete related formal training courses which may entail 10 to 15 hours or more each week on their own time. Failure to perform satisfactorily in either phase of the training may be cause for removal from the program. Upon satisfactory completion of the apprenticeship, the employee(s) may be placed in a journey-worker Hydromechanic position. This placement is expected to be at the Grand Coulee Power Office; however, depending upon Reclamation needs, the graduate may be assigned anywhere within the Pacific Northwest Region. Training Agreement: A signed training agreement (Employee's Agreement to Continue in Service) will be required of the selected candidates. The agreement requires that an employee remain in the Agency for a period equal to three times the length of training. Voluntary departures before completing the period of service may result in reimbursement to the Bureau of Reclamation for the tuition and related fees, travel, and other special expenses paid in connection with the training.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including any selective placement factors if applicable, by 02/14/2024.
