You will serve as a Equipment Specialist in the Facilities Management and Sustainment (FM&S) Product Line Core of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will plan and carry out a regional program of deficiency detection, testing, and Code compliance validation relative to the construction, operation, maintenance, repair and/or replacement of vertical transportation equipment (VTE). You will provide technical information and advice to those who design, test, produce, procure, supply, operate, repair, or dispose of VTE equipment. You will perform certification inspections which include reviews of life safety, maintenance, engineering, and operation of more than 300 units of VTE. You will witness performance testing/inspections and certify VTE equipment is safe for use. You will perform calculations related to volume, speed, weight, strength of materials, and other factors involved in determining whether elevator installations meet ASME safety code requirements.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Ensuring code compliance in the inspection, construction, operation, maintenance, repair and/or replacement of VTE. 2) ensuring NAVFAC Certified inspectors witness inspection, testing, and certification of all types of VTE, including elevators, escalators, lifts, dumb waiters, and other associated equipment at required intervals directed by the NAVFAC VTE Business Process Management System 3) Performing certifications in accordance with Unified Facility Criteria (UFC) 3-490-06, Unified Facility Guide Specification's (UFGS's) and BPMS B-15.12 4) responsible for managing the VTE Certification VTE Inspectors community to include career path, training, and workforce shaping.
