The position is located in the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Office of Employment and Unemployment Statistics.
This position is inside the bargaining unit.
Duties
The BLS headquarters is currently located in Washington, D.C. but is in the process of relocating within the National Capital Area to the Suitland Federal Center in Suitland, Maryland. If selected for this position, your assigned duty station will be Washington, D.C with the option to telework from an approved telework site within the locality pay area of Washington, D.C./Baltimore/Arlington while the future headquarters is being built. Upon completion of the new headquarters offices in Suitland, MD, you will be required to report onsite to the Suitland Federal Center for some portion of each pay period after receiving notification to do so.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provides technical direction and guidance for research, development, implementation, and evaluation of statistical methodology for the BLS OEUS Programs, including survey and sampling design, sample production, imputation, estimation of indexes and their sample variances, statistical validation of survey results, response rates, and quality measurement and control
Oversees the sample production activities for the BLS OEUS Program surveys
Researches, develops, implements, and evaluates complex sample and survey designs for BLS OEUS programs, including measurement and evaluation of trade-offs between various sampling methods and sample allocation methods in order to reduce the mean squared error of survey estimates
Prepares technical statements of statistical findings, evaluations, and recommendations regarding survey design processes
Conducts research to develop and evaluate index estimators, relatives, and weights and their respective variance estimates
Requirements

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT
Mathematical Statistician, 1529: A) Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.
OR
B) Combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Evaluation of Education: Courses acceptable toward meeting the mathematics course requirement of paragraphs A or B above must have included at least four of the following: differential calculus, integral calculus, advanced calculus, theory of equations, vector analysis, advanced algebra, linear algebra, mathematical logic, differential equations, or any other advanced course in mathematics for which one of these was a prerequisite. Courses in mathematical statistics or probability theory with a prerequisite of elementary calculus or more advanced courses will be accepted toward meeting the mathematics requirements, with the provision that the same course cannot be counted toward both the mathematics and the statistics requirement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
GS-13: In addition to the basic requirements above, applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-12, in the federal service, including:
Developing, coordinating, and implementing work in the field of mathematical statistics as it applies to complex survey and administrative data. This includes complex sample survey design, weighting, estimation, variance estimation, and the development and analysis of models using administrative data and data from complex surveys
Managing projects which included coordinating and assimilating different priorities, managing resources assigned to a project, ensuring standards are maintained, and ensuring that processes and products are well documented
Education
