Requirements

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: HRO MUST process and clear the Department of Defense (DoD), Priority Placement Program (PPP), prior to advertising all internal and external job vacancies and promotion announcements. Area 1 = All permanent Enlisted members employee (NG T32/NG T5) within Puerto Rico Army National Guard. Area 2 = All indefinite Enlisted members employee (NG T32/NG T5) within Puerto Rico Army National Guard. Area 3 = Enlisted members of the Puerto Rico Army National Guard. First round consideration will be given to Area 1 Candidates. (All other Areas will be screened only in the event that there are no qualified or recommended Candidates). To prevent a grade inversion, military rank allowed for this position will be determined at the final evaluation of the vacancy announcement considering the military rank of the supervisor. Acceptance of any military technician position may cause the termination of entitlements and eligibility for all military bonuses and student loan repayments. DUTIES: As a MOBILE EQUIPMENT METAL WORKER (D1216000), WG-3809-9, you will repair mobile equipment bodies and metal body components in support of maintenance activities. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Performs frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, and handling of objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally involving heavier objects. Requires prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing. Frequently reaches in hard-to-get-at places and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is usually performed on concrete floors in shop areas around machinery. Exposed to dirt, dust, grease, odors, smoke, gases, and high noise levels. Sanding, grinding, or welding duties require the wearing of goggles, respirator, welding mask, apron, or gloves. Exposed to possible burns, eye injury from infrared and ultraviolet rays, and cuts, bruises, abrasions, and electric shock. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which has provided a knowledge of mobile body construction; and the skill to remove, fabricate, reshape and replace or repair such damage as, dents, tears, wrinkles, cuts and creases by cutting, knocking out, welding, filling and sanding. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess at least EIGHTHEEN (18) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as working knowledge of mobile equipment construction and how all components and parts are installed and determine the total extent of damage and repair alternatives; repairs on fenders, panels, hoods, cowls, truck beds, and associated parts; applying body filler to build up depressed areas; fabricates, assembles, and installs a variety of components made of sheet metal ; removes and replaces body trim, hardware, windshields, door glass, headliners, and other body components; Repairs radiators, fuel tanks, and similar items; use of welding equipment to cut out damaged or deteriorated areas, remove rusted nuts and bolts, strengthen brackets and braces, weld simple cuts and breaks, and apply heat to bend, reshape damaged areas.
