Duties

The full performance level (FPL) of the target position that the Recent Graduate can be non-competitively promoted to is a GS-07. Promotion to the full performance level is neither guaranteed nor implied and will be based solely on your ability to satisfactorily perform the work of the position, existing work at the higher grade level, and recommendation by the position's supervisor. Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Processes incoming and outgoing loans. Maintains museum records, including accession, catalog, and loan records, in accordance with the National Park Service standards. Implements housekeeping program and monitors the environment of the collection storage and exhibit areas by keeping records on temperature, relative humidity, and pest infestation. Handles, cleans, stores, and labels objects in the museum collection. Serves as team member, and at times a team leader, on curatorial projects such as the elimination of cataloging backlogs; photo documentation of collections; or the reorganization of storage areas. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-02/07/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) that is related to the operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to the position to be filled. You must include hours worked per week in your resume. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a full four-year course of study (120 semester hours/180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects (e.g., Anthropology, Biology, Archeology, Geology) or other courses related to the position to be filled. If you are qualifying for the position based on your education, you must submit a copy of your transcript. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above which total at least one year. For example, 6 months of specialized experience (50% of the specialized experience) and three years of education above high school (50% of the education) would qualify an applicant for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. If qualifying based on a combination of education and experience, you must submit a copy of your transcripts and you must include hours worked per week in your resume. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) that is related to the operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes activities such as unpacking, processing, and repacking museum objects; identifying, labeling, and preparing objects for storage or display; cataloging objects into a museum database; preparing, maintaining, and organizing curatorial records; performing routine cleaning of museum objects per established standards; assisting with installation, repair, and rehabilitation of exhibits. You must include hours worked per week in your resume. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one year of graduate level education (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours or equivalent) with coursework related to the duties of the position. Related fields of study include art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects (e.g., Anthropology, Biology, Archeology, Geology) or other courses related to the position to be filled. If you are qualifying for the position based on your education, you must submit a copy of your transcripts. -OR- I have successfully completed, or expect to complete within 9 months, all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement in a related field of study, e.g., art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects (e.g., Anthropology, Biology, Archeology, Geology) or other courses related to the position to be filled. Superior Academic Achievement is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. Grade-point average (G.P.A.) -- Applicants must have a grade-point average of: 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. If you are qualifying for the position based on your education, you must submit a copy of your transcript. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above which total at least one year. For example, 6 months of specialized experience (50% of the specialized experience listed above) and one-half year of graduate level education in coursework related to the field (9 semester hours or 14 quarter hours equaling 50% of the education listed above) would qualify an applicant for this position. If qualifying based on a combination of education and experience, you must submit a copy of your transcripts and you must include hours worked per week in your resume. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
