About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency, Naval Hospital, Directorate of Administrative, Patient Administration, Agana Heights, Guam. This is a Term position scheduled to last 3 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management and may be converted to a permanent appointment without further competition. This is an obligated position.

Duties

Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Develops, maintains, and conducts specialized classes designed to develop coding skills for US Naval Hospital Guam employees. Plans, directs, and provides oversight for the daily operational activities of the command wide medical records program. Regularly provides technical advice and assistance to management on medical record issues, requirements and standards formulated by Joint Commission, BU1v1ED, AHA and the command as it pertains to coding. Conducts evaluations or branch activities to ensure current professional standards are met and makes recommendations for improvements. Independently manages workflow to meet production schedules and avoid backlogs. Prepares statistical reports, i.e., delinquency reports, documentation reviews and/or other reports as required.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • One of the following certifications is required: American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT),
  • or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Certified Professional Coder (CPC) must be obtained/maintained within in the first 6 month of occupying the position.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 3 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
