Duties

Performs overhaul, installation, maintenance, modification, and repair of electrical/electronic equipment. Utilizes a variety of equipment such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, tube testers, oscilloscope, and relay checkers in completing assignments and improvising changes to techniques and procedures (next bullet) to reach specified parameters when aging of components or modification of circuits have changed operating conditions. Replaces defective parts, such as relays, solenoids, transistors, resistors, wires, capacitors, coils, sockets, diodes, relay modules, transformers, dry cell modules, terminal blocks, etc. Maintains, repairs, adjusts and calibrates complex electronic sensing and computer controlled security equipment. Repairs and replaces circuit boards, motherboards, and re-programs said devices to ensure proper operation of door operators.

Qualifications

To qualify for an Electronics Mechanic, your resume and supporting documentation must support: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Electronics Mechanic without more than normal supervision (SOE): Perform the common tasks of the job to be filled but under close supervision, such as performs overhaul, installation, maintenance, modification, and repair of electrical/electronic equipment; Work with Telecom to assess where LAN problems or electronic problem exist, repairs as necessary. Utilizes a variety of equipment such voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, tube testers, oscilloscope, and relay checkers; Repairs and replaces circuit boards, motherboards, and re-programs said devices to ensure proper operation of door operators. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and where systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently handles, lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds, and occasionally over 75 pounds. Working Conditions: The incumbent of this position works inside and outside at heights up to 120 feet above the ground and is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise. Frequently is exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, bruises, scrapes, and infections. Must wear protective safety devices which are extremely uncomfortable when worn in hot weather.
