About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Public Works Construction and Transportation Division, Construction & Maintenance Branch at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA.

Duties

Operate earth-moving equipment, such as, front-end loader, backhoe, and bulldozer to excavate. Take action to eliminate safety hazards. Perform maintenance of ground sites and motor vehicles. Safely operate motor vehicles on various terrains when loaded and unloaded. Operate vehicle while manipulating levers and controls to engage equipment. Perform user maintenance of equipment and power tools.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within a reasonable time frame of appointment.
  • Must be able to physically lift up to 40 lb. during normal operations.
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination prior to employment and annually thereafter.
  • This is a mission essential position may require reporting to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operation in the event of severe weather conditions.
  • Must acquire and maintain a government license to drive vehicles assigned to the work unit.
  • Must undergo pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter as this is testing designated position (TDP).

Temporary promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years and may be made permanent without further competition. Position may be filled as a temporary appointment NTE 1 year if candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of three years. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator (Motor Vehicle Operator) without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform common tasks including: maneuvering ground soil physical properties; assisting shop mechanic in field maintenance services, operating motor vehicles or handling equipment for site preparation. Can assist with inspecting equipment for damaged. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Working Conditions: Work is performed in all types of weather and terrain often in an open drivers' seat or platform, on hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forests. The operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning and is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust.
