Duties
As a Biologist you will:
Performs biological science work or support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents.
Perform various techniques to rapidly identify and characterize biological and/or other agents that cause a number of diseases. Determines study requirements, resources, equipment needs, etc.
Acquire and organize materials and information to carry out study procedures for assigned projects.
Prepare and deliver written and oral reports to a variety of individuals and groups in both informal and formal settings.

Basic Qualifications:
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level, which must include experience in relating to infectious diseases, conducting biological scientific surveys/studies; performing and interpreting specialized tests and stains utilizing tissue culture systems for the detection and identification of pathogenic microorganisms.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to
