About the Position: This position will work for the Directorate of Emergency Services Police/Provost Marshall Division in Yakima Training Center at Yakima, WA.

Duties

Shift Supervisor for the Law Enforcement force assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander at IMCOM supported installations. Responsible for responses to and investigates emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service. Conducts traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer. Establishes Incident Command at the onset of terrorist attack or other significant incident affecting public safety and the installation mission. Operate the National Crime Information Center terminal in accordance with federal and state laws to transcribe data.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Incumbent is subject to removal from the position if convicted of a felony in accordance with Section 639 of P.L. 106-554 effective January 20, 2001.
  • Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 DTM 17-004)
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Incumbent must be able obtain and maintain a valid Tier 3 (Secret) security investigation.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience reviewing and preparing accurate and concise police reports containing all pertinent information and the ability to follow established guidelines for format. Experience with applicable local laws and policies pertaining to the jurisdiction status of the Installation and must be capable to determine applicable charges and violations. Knowledge of report formats, procedures and basic grammar for finalizing accurate reports; experience with procedures related to the search and seizure of evidence and contraband and the securing of a crime scene. Knowledge of current law enforcement and crime prevention techniques and the ability to apply same when required. Working knowledge in the operation of various automation equipment located on the Police Desk such as National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal, Internal Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance system, and Integrated Commercial intrusion detection systems (ICIDS). The OPM Qualification Standard states experience must have provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualifications requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
