The incumbent serves as an Executive Assistant to the Regional Director, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which includes four states, freely associated states of the Western Pacific, and the Trust Territories of the Pacific. The incumbent is the principal contact in the Office of the Regional Director and regularly interacts as the highest political and corporate levels, e.g., the White House, Congress, Tribes, Federal executives, State Directors, Governors, and major corporations.
Duties
As a Secretary (OA) your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Plans, coordinates, and directs the management and the administration of the Regional Director's staff; devises and implements effective methods to handle work details efficiently and accurately; develops necessary plans for the office and procures materials necessary for smooth office operation.
Implements Regional Director/Deputy Regional Director policies and statements by providing background information, interpretation, and suggesting courses of action based on knowledge of Regional Director/Deputy Regional Director policies, and for maintaining a liaison with the Washington Office Directorate, other Fish and Wildlife Service officials, other Federal agencies, state agencies, Tribes, non-governmental groups/organizations (NGOs), businesses, and individuals.
Maintains the Region's information in the Data Tracking System (DTS) and backup correspondence logs, and determines and assigns which documents above and beyond Headquarters control will receive a Regional Office response and establishes the responding time frames.
Consults with the Regional Director, Deputy Regional Director, Assistant Regional Directors, and staff to maintain an awareness of current issues and program priorities that may impact correspondence and/or the Regional Director/Deputy Regional Director priorities.
Maintains a complicated and changeable computerized calendar for the Regional Director/Deputy Regional Director; and provides copies to the Assistant Regional Directors, staff, and Region's project leaders, for meetings and travel plans.

Qualifications
Only experience and education obtained by 02/13/2024 will be considered.
In order to qualify for this position you must possess the Minimum Qualification.
This vacancy will utilize a multiple step assessment process to determine the qualifications of applicants. The first step will consist of applicants completing an occupational questionnaire related to the major duties and competencies of the position. The second step will consist of applicant resumes being reviewed by a Subject Matter Expert (SME) panel for related position competencies against a pre-determined rating schedule. This process will determine the final rating of the applicant for possible referral to the hiring official for hiring consideration.
Minimum Qualification GS-9
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 level. Specialized experience may include the following: providing dedicated administrative support to a manager or single office/program, such as arranging travel, maintaining calendars and schedules; coordinating highly visible correspondence and information requests; planning and coordinating arrangements for professional meetings and conferences.
Minimum Qualification GS-10
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level. Specialized experience may include the following: executive level administrative support to a team of senior level managers or to multiple offices/programs, such as arranging travel, maintaining calendars and schedules; coordinating highly visible correspondence and information requests; planning and coordinating arrangements for professional meetings and/or events; and giving guidance to other administrative staff throughout an organization.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time In Grade Requirement: Applicants must meet both eligibility and qualification requirements for the position of interest by the closing date of the JOA. Specifically,
i. Area of Consideration.

iii. Time after competitive appointment as specified in 5 CFR 330.502.
